Jeanne Stolberg Toor died at near midnight on August 26, 2008. Her end came five days after her 60th wedding anniversary. She fought for years against congestive heart failure, but the progress of the disease was more than her persistent efforts were able to overcome. Jeanne was born April 24, 1927, in Cloquet, MN. She attended schools in Scanlon, MN, and Cloquet. After high-school graduation she went to the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, majoring in English. She and George Toor met later at the university branch in Duluth, MN, and were married on August 21, 1948. When they returned to Minneapolis, Jeanne worked as an electroencephalographer at the University. In 1949 the couple went to Crookston, MN, where George was an editor for a daily newspaper. In 1951 they relocated to Palo Alto, CA, and moved 1957 to Phoenix when the desert location was recommended for Jeanne?s health. After nine years they relocated to Pacific Palisades, CA, and again to Saratoga, CA. While there, Jeanne was employed in the security department of a computer corporation in Silicon Valley. Retirement followed and the couple made their final move to Prescott in January, 1998. With retirement came the major pleasure of Jeanne?s life . . . travel. She particularly enjoyed travel by ship or boat and the couple sailed up the Amazon, Nile, Rhine, and Rhone rivers, down the Mississippi, and across the Atlantic aboard a square-rigged sailing ship. Their travels took them to the cities of Europe and Scandinavia, and the continents of Africa and South America. Jeanne was always an avid reader and in Saratoga, CA, she was awarded a best-library patron award. Jeanne and her husband George were active locally in the Yavapai Learning Institute, OLLI, and the Vasa Society. Jeanne is survived by her husband, a daughter Stephanie, a son Jon, six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and a brother William. * * *
