James W Mansell

James "Jim" Walter Mansell passed away Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010, at Good Samaritan Society, Marley House Hospice, in Prescott, Ariz. He was born May 4, 1941, in Pasadena, Calif., the son of Morris and Elizabeth Mansell. Jim was 69 years old.Growing up, Jim was involved in 4H raising chickens and rabbits and selling eggs. For his efforts in 4H he won first place one year in Los Angeles County and spent a week at Davis University in Northern California. Jim graduated from Redlands University with a bachelor's degree in science. He worked for GTE in the telecommunications field. Jim supported both his daughter Kim in her dance and drill team and coached his son, Jim, in soccer, baseball and basketball. Jim was also involved in BCL (Boys Christian League) and traveled with their baseball team to the East Coast. He enjoyed playing on an industrial basketball team. He loved fishing, playing golf, gold panning, and camping with the family and friends. Jim was a member of the Elks in Monrovia, Calif., and bowled on their team.After retiring from GTE with over 30 years, he and his wife, Jackie, moved to Prescott. He owned the Phone Doctor and later worked part-time at True Value. He was a member of the Prescott Woodturners and involved in the Prescott Frontier Days Rodeo, the "Wild Horse Race," and received his belt buckle for serving as the chairman for five years. Jim also belonged to a billiard team in Prescott, Prescott Saddle Club and loved his horse, "Casey."Jim was a man who loved people and the outdoors. He was a "people person" with a love for life and was the first to lend someone a helping hand. During his life's journey, Jim enjoyed the many sports and organizations he belonged to. Jim never had a harsh word with anyone or about anyone. Jim never stopped studying for more knowledge on many diverse subjects. When it came to Jim, the well of knowledge was never full. Jim is survived by his loving and caring wife of 47 years, Jackie; daughter Kim (Dr. Joseph) Savoini; and son Jim Mansell; grandchildren Josie Savoini, Kenzie Mansell, and Ryder Mansell; sister Sharon Cook; and brother Steve Mansell. Jim is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.Services for Jim include a visitation from 10 to 11:45 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, followed by a celebration of Jim's life at noon at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 630 Park Ave., Prescott.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Marley House Hospice, 1063 Ruth St., Prescott, AZ 86301.

A visitation for Jim will be from 10-11:45 a.m., Monday, November 15, 2010 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 630 Park Av., Prescott.

Service:
A Celebration of Jim's Life will be at noon, Monday, November 15, 2010 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 630 Park Av., Prescott.
