J. Wayne Markle, 81, of Prescott Valley, AZ passed away Friday, Feb. 3, 2012. Wayne passed peacefully in his home under the care of his family and Hospice of the Pines.
He was born Aug 16, 1930 in Harrisburg, PA, a son of the late John and Nellie Pearl Markle. He was preceded in death by his sons J. David and Steven Wayne Markle, sisters Isabel Strine, Mary Heishman, and Georgeanna May, and brother Glen Markle.
Surviving are his loving wife Kathy Markle, children Ami, Jami, and Scott Markle, sister Jean Yinger, and brother Lloyd Markle.
Wayne graduated from high school in Carlisle, PA in 1948, and then earned an engineering degree from Penn State University in 1952. He also played football for Penn State under Rip Engle.
Wayne went on to found Markle Construction Company, a residential and commercial construction firm based in Mechanicsburg, PA. He was active in the Chamber of Commerce, local Fire Company, Masonic Lodge, Moose Lodge, among other civic organizations throughout his lifetime.
In 1998, Wayne and his wife retired to Prescott Valley, AZ. He became active in the Senior Softball League, where the games and camaraderie brought him great joy! The only thing Wayne enjoyed more than watching sports was playing sports. He had many great opportunities on the diamond, the grid iron, and the links during his lifetime, including a round of golf with Arnold Palmer.
The quality of his life can be felt by the love and devotion of the family that he left behind. May he rest in Peace!
