Gregory Wayne Burgin

Greg Red Burgin passed away peacefully on May 20, 2011. He was a loving husband, dad, poppa, son, brother, uncle and friend. Red was born on September 14, 1950 in California and was an Arizona resident for 13 years.

Red is survived by his wife of 25 years, Susie, his son Ryan Carr and wife Chrissy, grandkids Vince and Sophia Carr, dad Ray Burgin, sister Pam Burgin, mother-in-law Patricia Flora, sister-in-law Debi Bloomfield, nephew Jason Donaldson and wife Cindy, great nephew Jackson Donaldson and niece Amy Donaldson. He is preceded in death by his mom, Beverly and father-in-law James Flora.

Red was a true self made man. He was a successful Landscape Contractor and Nursery Owner in California and in Arizona. He loved his chosen profession and was a real man of the earth. He met Susie in 1983 and together they established Earthworks Landscape Company in Long Beach, California. In 1997 they moved their business to Prescott, Arizona and established Earthworks Landscape and Supply in Chino Valley. Red built a thriving business with Susie by his side. He could talk trees to anyone and was a true visionary in implementing new ideas to help make the business successful. Red and Susie traveled to many far away places and enjoyed many awesome adventures. He became an advanced scuba diver and had the opportunity to dive in wonderful exotic waters.

Reds big passion though was racing cars. Red and Susie began racing offroad desert cars in 1983, winning many races and a few championships. He began road course racing in 2008, obtaining his national racing license. A completely different type of racing, but he excelled at it too. Reds big smile and big laugh will be missed by so many, yet the legacy he has left behind we will all hold dear to our hearts.

A memorial celebration for Red will be held at a later date and his final race will be at the SCORE Baja 1000 this November in Mexico.
