Glen Phillip Spykerman

Glen Phillip Spykerman was born November 6, 1957, to John and Phyllis Spykerman. He was the youngest of 3 children; he grew up in the South Side of Chicago until his family moved to Escondido, California. He joined the Army as an adventurous young man of 18, looking for challenges and opportunities to shine. Glen went on to have a successful military career as a rotary and fixed wing pilot and pilot instructor. His family is proud of the badges he was awarded: Expert Infantryman, Master Army Aviator, Parachutist, Air Assault, Ranger, and many medals of outstanding and meritorious service. He served our country from 1977 to 1996 and has worked at the VA hospital in Prescott for the past 10 years. He is predeceased by his brother John J. Spykerman, his dearly loved wife Sherry Spykerman, his dad, and his beloved Mom Phyllis Griffith. Glen was a loving and caring son, uncle, nephew and grandson; their wish was his command. Glen is survived by his sister Pattie Boertje and niece Jessa Boertje. Great appreciation goes to his uncles Harold Vogelaar (and wife Mai), Bob Vogelaar, and to his cousin Joyce (husband Corky) who have 'been there' for him since moving to Prescott Valley. We are especially grateful to the hospice care unit at the VA Hospital, who treated him with the dignity and respect of a family member. We hope Glen is taking off for high adventures on his bike, full throttle, through the clouds, ready to dance with the angels.
