Gerald Douglas Chadderdon, 94, formerly of Olean, NY and Orlando, FL died Friday, Dec. 23, 2016 at The Marley House in Prescott, AZ.
Born Oct. 9, 1922 in Friendship, NY, he was the son of the late Sealey Warner and Anna Wind Chadderdon. He grew up on Genesse Street in Olean, NY.He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air force as a cadet in 1942 and took his basic training at Allegheny College, Meadville, Pa. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant and received his "Silver Wings" at Craig Field, Alabama in June 1944. He was a bomber pilot during the final stages of World War II.
He graduated from St. Bonaventure University with a B.S.in Chemistry and Math in June of 1949 and his MS in Chemistry in June of 1952.He spent 35 years as a missile and rocket engineer employed by Bell Aircraft Corporation of Buffalo, NY and Lockheed Martin in Orlando, FL. His hobbies included fly fishing, hunting, photography, gem prospecting, gem cutting, golfing, visiting with childhood friends and monthly lunch with retired co-workers.Gerald never married and is survived by his nephew, Bruce A. Chadderdon of Prescott, AZ and his niece Valerie L. Thompson of Phoenix, AZ.
He was predeceased by his brother Warner J. Chadderdon.Private family service with military honors and internment in the Chadderdon Family plot of Mount View Cemetery in Olean, NY at a later date.
