George J. St. Amand, 78, of Prescott Valley passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 4, 2022, with his wife of 50 years, Patricia St. Amand, and his daughter, Annique Gowdy by his side.
George was born in Montreal, Canada, the son of the late Henry Armand St. Amand and Isabella St. Amand. They legally migrated to the United States when George was 6 years old.
George served with the U.S. Navy on the USS Coral Sea during the Vietnam era from 1960-1966. He then served on the Riverside Police Department and Ontario Police Department in California. He retired as a truck driver in Tucson. George was proud to serve as an Arizona Ranger before an illness.
George loved helping others. He visited Ensenada, Mexico in the late 1970’s after the region was devastated by floods. George made several trips hauling in food, clothing, bedding, medicine and other necessary items for the community. George was honored when the Mayor presented him the Key to the City.
George is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Isabella St. Amand and his son, John P. St. Amand.
George is survived by his wife, Patricia St.Amand; daughter, Annique (LeGrande) Gowdy and grandson, Lucas Gowdy of South Carolina; daughter, Crystal Compton-Gardner and grandsons, Adam Compton, Aaron Compton and Alston Compton of Texas; sister, Anne (Sam) Elarionoff, nephews, David and Eric Elarionoff of Hawaii; and lifelong brother in blue, Mike (Laura) De La Cruz of Mississippi.
George was a patriot! He was proud to serve his country. He loved socializing, meeting new people, bonfires and beer. He loved life, his family, his friends, and animals. He never met a stranger.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Yavapai Humane Society or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
