George F. Marchessault of Prescott Arizona went to heaven on Saturday, December 17, 2016. His passing was peaceful with his family by his side. George was born November 9, 1928 in Auburn Massachusetts to George E Marchessault and Irene (Plante) Marchessault.
He joined the U.S. Army in September 1946. He was incorporated in the U.S. Air Force when it was formed in 1947. As an airplane mechanic, he was deployed overseas for assignments in Guam; Burtonwood RAF, England; Turkey; France and Vietnam. Stateside he served as an instructor of aircraft mechanics at Sheppard AFB, Texas; Cannon AFB, New Mexico; and Luke AFB, Arizona where he retired after his 24 years of honorable service. George took advantage of the GI Bill and completed his undergraduate and graduate degrees, including a teaching certificate, from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff Arizona.
George married Suzanne Smith on August 21, 1975 and enjoyed many years traveling, dancing, working with rescue animals and spending time with their family. He began teaching immediately upon graduation in various subjects at the vocational/technical high school level for 16 years. George has been an active member of the American Legion since the mid 1960's. He was a past post Commander of the American Legion Ernest A Love Post 6, Prescott in the early 1990's, was one of the 5 charter members of the Honor/Color guard program. George held various offices of the American Legion at the district level. George was a man of deep faith and an active member of the Sacred Heart Parish, Prescott, serving as a lector, alter server and Eucharistic Minister. George bowled on the Monday afternoon bowling league for over 20 years and enjoyed the game and all of his team and league mates. George and his wife Sue lived at Las Fuentes Retirement Resort for the last 5 years where George was an active member of the community enjoying all the friendships with the other residents.
George is survived by his brothers Frank Marchessault (Claire) and Paul Marchessault (Muriel) all from Massachusetts, daughter, Kathlene Flynn of Prescott; step-son Gary Smith (Jeanie) of Tempe Arizona and step-daughter Susan (Ric) Surber of Phoenix Arizona; grandchildren Beth Flynn of New Hampshire and Ryan Flynn of Minnesota. He was proceeded in death by his wife Suzanne Smith, foster grand-daughter April Govier of Nebraska, parents George E and Irene Marchessault and son George W Marchessault.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Life line ambulance emergency medical technicians, doctors, nurses and staff of the Yavapai Regional Medical Center and Granite Creek Health and Rehabilitation Center. A special thanks to Maggies Hospice for their comfort, care and kindness during his final days.
