On January 12, 2018, Genevieve (nee Piccioni) Vaughn passed away peacefully at home on the Yavapai-Prescott Indian Reservation. She was 87 years old. She was born in 1930 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Italian-immigrant parents Ubaldo Piccioni and Angela (Dottola) Piccioni. Genevieve grew up in Philadelphia and studied nursing at St Joseph’s Hospital in Philadelphia. While taking a road trip to the Grand Canyon with her friends, Genevieve fell in love with the beauty of Arizona, and she signed up to work as a nurse with the US Public Health Service in the early 1960s. As a USPHS nurse she was based in Peach Springs, and regularly rode on mule and horseback into Havasupai Canyon to serve the people in Supai. She loved working with the people and had many stories to tell about working and living in the area.It was at Peach Springs that she met her future husband Theodore (Ted) M. Vaughn. They married in 1970, and together they lived and worked in Window Rock, Keams Canyon, and White River before settling on the Yavapai-Prescott Indian Reservation in 1981. In Prescott, Genevieve worked as a nurse at Yavapai Regional Medical Center for nearly twenty years before she retired.Genevieve loved nursing, and she loved helping people. Her compassion, common sense, and wonderful sense of humor allowed her to make many friends throughout her life. She loved traveling with her family, visiting relatives in Arizona, California, and Oregon, where she especially loved taking scenic trips to the Oregon coast.Genevieve is survived by her son Thaddeus, and her husband’s children; daughters Margaret, Louise, and Amy, sons Charlie, and Ted Jr., and many grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Ted, brothers Michael and Pat, and Ted’s sons Sammy and Tommy.
