Gabriel Liberty Rachel

Gabriel L. Rachel (Gabe)

Gabriel was born in Washington DC Feb 5, 1979 to Sarah C. (Hopkins) Rachel and Gregory K. Weiger of Gaithersburg, MD. He grew up in the tri-state area of MD/DC/VA having lived in all three.

He joined the Army at 18, but was soon released due to a medical condition. Always interested in IT technology he started taking classes and started out at various Network Help Desks and began working his way up. Soon he was a Network Engineer and held contracted jobs from the east coast to the West coast and places in between.

He is survived by both parents who are not together, and his sister, Jessica A. Carlisle.

Gabriel quickly showed symptoms while very young which caused a series of diagnoses, or mis-diagnosis. Asperger's syndrome was not even being talked about then, but that might have been the problem. From conversations with Asperger's experts he would have been considered a high-functioning Asperger's, high IQ, but almost completely unable to read social cues (body language, expressions, tone of voice) which often resulted in inappropriate behavior. Those two things landed him a lifetime of heartache. He was a very complicated guy, but a mostly sweet and gentle soul who could never figure out what he was doing wrong. He died of depression.

He will always be dearly missed to those who loved him.
