Frederic Bliss Newton

Fred Newton, 92, passed away on September 1, 2011. He was born in Georgia, VT on May 13, 1919. He was brought up on a dairy farm in northern Vermont, the oldest boy of 8 children. Mr. Newton served as 1st Lieutenant in the Army Air Corp during World War II in Europe and in the Army Transport Command in the Pacific. After the service he founded Newton Business Machines with territory in Vermont and New Hampshire. His wife, Kathleen (Kay) was the business bookkeeper. Fred retired after 25 years in business and he and Kay moved to Prescott in 1988. He delighted in making many new friends at First Christian Church, as well as People Who Care, the Military Pilots group, the Prescott Computer Society and a local writers group. Fred authored over 30 stories of his boyhood life on the Vermont farm during the years 1927-1939. These stories were published as part of Georgia Memories, a town history of Georgia, Vermont. Fred leaves his wife, Kay and passed away one day short of their 68th wedding anniversary. He also leaves a daughter, Eileen and husband Ronald, a son, Paul and his wife Judy, grandsons Michael Maniaci and Peter Maniaci and wife Amanda, and four great grandsons, Jack, James, Finn and Colin Maniaci, a brother, Morris Newton of Oklahoma City, OK, and sister, Barbara Brennan of Mission Viejo, CA.
A memorial service was held at First Christian Church on September 4th with his final resting place at the Prescott National Cemetery. The family would like to thank the caring staff at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Prescott and the many thoughtful friends at First Christian Church.
