Adventurer, mining engineer, pilot, historian, story teller, Frank Dennis Scholey passed away peacefully on February 20, 2015 ending his battle with ALS. All who knew him will miss the excitement of his adventures and stories, and the energy that “Hard Rock Scholey” shared. Frank was a dear friend to many. His sense of humor, treasury of jokes, and enthusiasm about doing new things and exploring unknown or overlooked opportunities created a never-ending sense of excitement - whenever and wherever he showed up. His happiest times were when he re-established connections with old friends and colleagues. Frank often shared regrets at losing touch with close relationships as he moved on in his life’s adventures. Frank was born in Baguio, Philippine Islands on April 10, 1935 to George T. Scholey and Edith M. (Foster) Scholey. He is survived by his stepdaughter, Sanna Phinney, two brothers, George A. Scholey and Guy E. (wife Linda) Scholey. Other survivors include his nieces, Cindy (husband Barry) Goodwin, Cathy Campbell, Kate (husband Raymond) Woodard, Teri (husband Jason) Bilicic, and his nephew, Randy (wife Melissa) Scholey. No services will be held per Frank’s request as he threw his own Celebration of Life party in May 2014. Contributions in Frank’s memory can be made to the ALS Association, 360 E. Coronado Rd., Suite 140, Phoenix, AZ. 85004. Frank will be buried with his grandfather, Arthur Foster in the International Order of Odd Fellows Cemetery on Virginia Street in Prescott.
