Florence Louise (Moore) Greer passed away at Prescott Samaritan Village on September 14, 2011. Florence was born in Lucas, S.D. on July 21, 1919 to Arthur and Jennie Moore. She and her sisters, Wilma and Maxine, grew up on their South Dakota farm. She graduated from high school at the age of 16 and attended So. State Normal School in Springfield, S.D. where she received her teaching certificate. Florence was teaching in a one-room school house at the age of 18.
Florence and Gregory R. Greer were married on June 18, 1941. South Dakota farming continued to be their way of life until moving to Burke, S.D., where they owned and operated Greers Ice Cream Store and Caf for many years. Florence and Gregorys son, Douglas, and daughter, Barbara were born in Burke. The Greers moved to Greeley, Colo. in 1953, where Florence lived until her husbands death in 1971. She then resided in Erie, CO. near her son and his family.
Mrs. Greer moved to Arizona in 1999, first to Parker and then to Prescott Samaritan Village apartments. She lived in Prescott for 12 years.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Karen Greer, her daughter Barbara Hinkel, her sister Maxine Genzlinger, grandchildren Greg D. Greer (Traci), Jennifer and Bree Hinkel, great-granddaughters Laira Mestas, Niki Greer, and Alex Greer and great-great-granddaughter, Rori Mestas. She was preceded in death by her husband Gregory R. Greer, sister Wilma Bisson, grandson Rolland Greer, and son-in-law N. John Hinkel.
Graveside services: Sept. 26,Sunset Memorial Gardens-Greeley, CO. The family wishes to thank the caring staff and residents of Prescott Samaritan Village. Donations in Florences memory can be made to Prescott Meals on Wheels or Prescott Samaritan Village.
