Our cherished mother, Florence Lee Myles, passed away on December 11, 2023, at the age of 91. She was born August 30, 1932, in Panaca, Nevada, where her Mormon pioneer great-grandparents had settled.
Formerly of Lakewood, Colorado, she had lived most recently at Granite Gate Senior Living in Prescott, Arizona. Florence was outgoing, clever, whip-smart, fun, and adored by all. During her high school years, she was an accomplished athlete, a cheerleader and the salutatorian of her class. She attended the University of Nevada at Reno, on a Harold’s Club Scholarship, where she met her husband, George A. Myles Jr. They had five children, Tim Myles (Alicesara ex), Julie Burgess (David), Delisa Myles (Earl Duque), Lee Myles (Ruth Coyne) and Sheri Penrose (David).
Her husband George’s career brought many moves and family vacation adventures. Florence’s love of flowers and gardening led her to become a Master Gardener. She completed a degree in physical education and worked part-time as a teacher’s aide in Lakewood. Much of her energy was devoted to keeping her children involved in a plethora of activities from scouting, music, sports, 4-H, church activities and creating happy memories. She had a flair for decorating and was a great cook. She enjoyed a lifetime of devotion to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and benefited from the blessings and relationships it brought into her life.
Florence was predeceased by her beloved husband, George A. Myles Jr., to whom she was married for 45 years. Also predeceased by her second husband Donald M. Peck, son-in-law, David Penrose, sisters Vivian Woodbury, Della Richards, and her brother James Lee Jr. She is survived by her sister Orel Kay Allen, eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Beholding her posterity at her 90th birthday, she exclaimed, “I never knew what love could do!” She will be greatly missed, but her legacy of love lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A private funeral will be held at Ruffner-Wakelin Funeral Home, 303 S. Cortez Street, Prescott Arizona, on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. She will be laid to rest alongside her husband George, at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Good Samaritan Society - Marley House, 1063 Ruth Street, Prescott, AZ 86301.
