Evelyn M. (Mrs. Virgil) Bennett died Saturday, April 28, at Paradise Care Home. Evelyn was born Jan. 8, 1924 in Freeman Township, Iowa, to Louie and Hazel Nissen. She was 88 years old. Evelyn’s family were farmers, and she lived in several places in northwestern Iowa. She graduated from Greenville, Iowa, High School in 1942. On Aug. 16, 1942, she married Virgil Bennett, another Greenville High graduate. Following Virgil’s service in World War II, the Bennetts moved to Rapid City, South Dakota, where Evelyn worked for the Pennington County Extension Service and County Clerk. In 1975, they re-located to Prescott, where she worked for Yavapai Savings and Loan and Canyon Savings until retirement. Evelyn was a member of Prescott First Congregational Church, where she was active in the Women’s Fellowship. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Virgil, brothers Harold and Donald, and sisters Lucille and Irma. She is survived by daughters Sandra Bennett, Rebecca (Mitch Stewart) Bennett, and Constance (Bill) Keeling, grandson Patrick Keeling, and brothers Glen and Darrell. A celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held Friday, May 4 at 1 pm at First Congregational Church, 216 E. Gurley, Prescott. Private family burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery in South Dakota. The family suggests contributions to First Congregational Church in lieu of flowers.
