Elma Ruth Volkman, 82, passed away Oct. 20, 2011, at Verde Valley Medical Center in Cottonwood, AZ. Born April 13, 1929 to Benjamin and Margaret Klaassen in Goessel, KS. She had three brothers: Earl, Max and Garfield. Most of her childhood was spent on their farm near Hillsboro, KS. She graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1947. She married Darrell Volkman in 1950 and they had four children. The family moved in 1967 from Wichita, KS to Scottsdale, AZ. She and Darrell retired in 1985 and moved to Peeples Valley, AZ. In 2006, they moved to Cottonwood, AZ. Elma was a hardworking volunteer at Community Presbyterian Church in Peeples Valley and Verde Valley Presbyterian Church in Cottonwood. She loved living life as a Christian. Her lifelong hobbies were sewing (so many wedding dresses), cooking (lemon meringue pie her prize), and volunteering at church, Girl Scouts, Baseball Little League, and schools. She is survived by her husband, Darrell; children, Ronald Volkman, Gary Volkman, Gayle (Steve) Palmer, and Steven (Kelly) Volkman; brother, Garfield; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at Verde Valley Presbyterian Church, 1500 E. Hombre Drive, Cottonwood, AZ. The family was assited by the Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home in Prescott, AZ.
