Ella Elizabeth Yeager

Ella Elizabeth Daniels Yeager, beloved mother and grandmother, was born in Kellyville, Oklahoma, on July 3, 1914, to Herbert and Rebecca Jane Daniels. Ella was the third of three daughters, following her sisters Lillian and Velma, with a brother Harold born two years later to complete the family. The Daniels family moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma, during her junior year in high school, and Ella graduated from high school in 1932. She attended Oklahoma A&M College, married Ben Duerksen in 1935, graduated from college in 1937, and then began teaching school. Ella’s son Don was born in 1942, the same year she and Ben divorced. Ella next worked in a defense plan, inspecting aircraft during World War II, after which she returned to teaching. Ella taught in Superior, Arizona, and Vancouver, Washington, before finally settling in Phoenix in 1946. There she taught in the Madison School District until her retirement in 1979. She touched the lives of many children during her teaching career. A new marriage occurred in 1947 when Ella married Frank Yeager, and became step-mother to his two college-aged children, Fran and Donald. Frank Yeager passed away in 1965. Ella completed a Masters Degree at ASU; served as President and in other offices of her chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, a professional teachers association; was a member of the DAR; and served in her ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Ella also served three missions for the LDS Church in her retirement years, in Mississippi-Louisiana; Scotland and the London LDS Temple; and at the LDS temple in Washington D.C. From her teaching experience, Ella invented and held a patent on a lesson planning system, Lesson-on-a-Strip. She gave workshops on her system at the National NEA Convention, and at various school districts across the country where she was invited. Ella was very proud of this contribution to the teaching profession. In doing genealogical research on her family, Ella developed a great interest in her Scottish heritage. Ella enjoyed traveling and took tours throughout the United States, and all around the world. Ella moved from Phoenix to live near her son’s family in Denver in 1994. She then moved with the family to Seattle, Washington; Prescott, Arizona; Fresno, California; and back to Prescott, where she has resided since 2004. Ella lived a long, happy and productive life. Ella Yeager is survived by her son, Don; her step-daughter Fran; nine grandchildren: Mark Fehlman, Jennifer Mulvaney, Jill Fehlman, Paul Fehlman, Stephanie Vernooy, Chris Yeager, Wendy Banks, Cecily Yeager, Jeff Yeager; 15 great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
