Edwin David Hoyt was born September 7, 1931 to
parents Harvey David and Esther Hoyt at the family
farm in Carneiro Kansas, Ellsworth County. God
came and took his hand while he was under
hospice care at home with Dorothy and their dog,
Dottie, by his side.
His family moved west to Grass Valley, California in
1936. Ed attended Grass Valley High School class
of 1949.
Ed enlisted in the Navy just before the Korean War
and served on three destroyers during his seven
years of service. He spoke often of his time on the
USS Stickell, USS Ozbourn and the USS Shields.
After being discharged from the Navy he landed in
Long Beach where he met and married Ann Piskur.
They shared a wonderful bond for 31 years and had
three children. Theresa Ann Hoyt, Robert David
Hoyt and Lynn Marie Hoyt Davis.
He worked for over 30 years as a Mechanical
Engineer mostly for Rama Corporation serving as
Vice President in Hemet, California.
Ed loved the outdoors often hiking in the deserts of
Southern California in search of old mines and
mining towns to relax and unwind from the stresses
of his job.
When Ann passed away in 1987, Ed retired. Ed was
an avid painter in the mediums of water colors,
acrylics and oils. He had an affinity for painting
Native Americans and all kinds of animals. During
that time he purchased Finishing Touch Frames in
Hemet where he became his own best customer.
Always up for a new adventure, Ed and his ever
faithful dog, Sarah, moved to Colorado for a time
before returning to California in 1997 to be closer to
his family still living in Southern California and the
Grass Valley area. He always wanted to see what
was just over the next hill but was always drawn
back to that which was most important to him, his
family.
Ed eventually found his way to the Placerville,
California area where he met his second wife
Dorothy Meadors. After 20 years of living in the
California foothills they moved to Prescott Valley,
Arizona to scale down and simplify their lives. They
adopted their Border Collie, Dottie, who was by Ed’s
side day and night. Ed had a special connection
with animals and was happiest with a dog in his life.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy, daughters
Theresa Ann Hoyt (Murray Taylor) and Lynn Marie
Hoyt Davis (Greg Dollarhyde) of Southern California
and nieces and nephews Den Painter (Patty), David
Painter (Sharon), Doug Painter (Sherry), Dean
Painter (Shelley), Diane Southern, Sandy Sindt
(Greg), Susan Weideman (Todd) and David Southern(Stephanie).
He was predeceased by his son
Robert David Hoyt, and his three sisters, Carol
Painter, Sue Southern and Janet Hoyt.
Ed’s favorite charity is Circle L Ranch Animal
Rescue and Sanctuary in Prescott Valley. 7680 N.
Coyote Springs, Prescott Valley, 928-273-7005. It
is where they adopted Dottie in 2019. They are very
special people.
