Earl J. Spenard, Jr.

Earl J. Spenard Jr. has succumbed to cancer. He was born on July 29, 1943 in Denver, CO to Geraldine and Earl J. Spenard Sr. Earl was proud to have served in the United States Marine Corps during the Viet Nam Conflict; and returning to Denver to begin service with the Jefferson county Sheriff’s Department that spanned 23 years. He rose to the rank of Major and was third in command when he retired. During that time, he attended and graduated from the FBI National Academy in the 145th Session. After retiring, he began a second career in real estate and eventually earned employing Broker’s Licenses in Colorado, Hawaii, Washington and Arizona. He worked with builders Geoffrey H. Edmonds, Shea Homes, Shea Active Adult and the Ryness Company. Earl won the MAME IV award for “Rookie of the Year” in 1994. He still owned Spenard Realty Services in Prescott but was semi-retired. Earl’s great avocation was riding his Gold Wing Motorcycle trike and he was active in Chapter Y, Gold Wing Road Riders Assn. and served as its Director in 2009 and 2010. He also belonged to Blue Knights and the Central Arizona Road Riders Association. For the past 3 years, he took long group motorcycle rides to Pike’s Peak, Yellowstone and areas around Lizard Head Pass in Colorado. Earl is survived by his beloved wife, Jenny, whom he married in 2005, and stepsons Eric Scudder from Seattle, WA, and Karl Scudder (April) from Cave Creek, AZ, and twin 12 year old grandchildren Sydney and Hayden Scudder of Cave Creek. His is also survived by his sister Rochelle Giacomozzi (Bob), brothers Mark Spenard and Paul (Mary) Spenard of Colorado. Also sisters Cynthia Bezay (John) of Indiana and Margaret Earlene Smith of Kansas, his niece Nancy (Dan) Deans of Colorado, and several nephews and nieces. A Celebration of Earl’s life will be held at Prescott National Cemetery in Prescott, AZ, services are private. Earl’s family suggests donations be made in Earl’s name to Prescott Arts Charitable Endowment (PACE) c/o Yavapai College, 1100 E. Sheldon St., Prescott, AZ 86301, or a favorite Charity.
