Dr. James A. Holleran died May 26, 2009 at Yavapai Regional Medical Center. He was born February 8, 1931, in St. John?s Hospital, Brooklyn, New York, the son of Frank and Emily (Hitzlberger) Holleran. Jim was 78 years old. Jim attended College of The Holy Cross in Worchester, MA. In his senior year, Jim was the college?s #1 tennis player. He graduated cum laude in l952. Although for a short time he considered a career in professional tennis, he decided to devote himself to the practice of medicine. After graduating from New York Medical School and completing a medical intership, Jim served in the US Navy as the commander of a Marine medical company on Okinawa for two years. After his marriage and the completion of a surgical residency, Jim established a surgical practice on Long Island, New York. Jim was an attending surgeon at Stony Brook University Hospital. He retired as Chief of Surgery of St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson, New York, following a 30 year-long practice. He was a past president of the Suffok County Medical Society and an active member of the American Medical Tennis Association. Jim and his beloved wife, Eileen Olson Holleran, moved to Prescott in 1998. They would have been married 50 years this October 10. Jim was a devout member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He also volunteered with the Yavapai County Medical Corp. Jim is survived by his wife, Eileen, sons; James (wife Stacy) and Robert; daughters Mary (husband Scott) Hennessee, Sheila Banks, and Leslie Holleran (husband Kevin Henderson); brothers John (wife Anita) and Frank (wife Margaret); and nine grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathleen. A military ceremony will be at 10:00am, Thursday, June 4, 2009 at Prescott National Cemetery.
