Dorothy Mae Raithel

Dorothy Mae Raithel, 88, a long-time resident of Prescott, died at her home on Tuesday, December 5, 2012, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Dorothy was born May 28, 1924, in San Antonio, TX, the daughter of Anton and Verna Tschirhart. She was united in marriage to W.J. “Bud” Raithel on November 7, 1942. They were married for 70 years. Dorothy received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Arizona State University in 1965. She furthered her education and received her Master of Education from ASU in 1968. Dorothy’s career as a school teacher began at Apache Elementary in 1965. In 1975, she transferred to Tonalea Elementary where she worked until her retirement in December 1983. She loved to sew, knit, crochet and read, and she enjoyed making wonderful food for her family and friends. She also enjoyed playing cards and board games, as well as hunting, fishing, camping, and traveling. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Bud; her children, Jack (Annette) Raithel of Collierville, TN, and Ruth Dassen of Mesa, AZ; her three granddaughters, Jennifer (James) Newman of Brooklyn, NY, Sarah Baer and Laura Baer, both of Mesa, AZ; her three great-grandchildren, Lyla Grace Newman, Michael Gavin McInturff, and Harvey Baer Jacobson; and her brother, Alton (Sharon) Tschirhart of Boerne, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents; three siblings Bill Tschirhart, Lois Walt, and Evelyn Tschirhart; her son-in-law, Henricus Dassen; and her only grandson, Adam Raithel.
