Dorothy Anita Carnal

Dorothy Anita Carnal, 95, passed away peacefully December 7, 2012 at her apartment in Prescott with her final words being “It’s Wonderful!” Dorothy was born March 25, 1917 in Astoria, Long Island, New York but spent most of her youth in Germany with her German mother and Swedish father, Thomas and Gertrude Karlson and brother, Thomas Jr. In her late 20’s she migrated west where she met and married her handsome cowboy, Lyle Carnal. After many years of ranch life in Colorado and Wickenburg, AZ area, they moved to Tempe in 1955. In the early 60’s, Lyle and Dorothy established Siesta Realty. Dorothy was an active and vibrant Tempe citizen volunteering with Camp Fire Girls, Rainbow Girls, The Salvation Army, Meals on Wheels, Tempe St. Luke’s Hospital and helping in school projects with her daughters. She was a past President of Zonta Club International and former Zonta Woman of the Year. After retiring from the real estate business, Dorothy and Lyle moved to Skull Valley in 1995 to enjoy the beautiful countryside and pastures for their horses, then finally on to Prescott in 2004. Dorothy had a love of people, gardening, handcrafts, baking, and classical music. She was an accomplished pianist providing many hours of entertainment for family and friends and has always been known for her great hospitality and warm and compassionate heart. Dorothy is survived by her husband Lyle; her three daughters Dorothy (Harrold) Waits, Linda Whatley, and Patti (Marty) Hulsebos; four grandchildren, Leslie (Jim) Flanagan, Stephanie (Steve) Jackson, Kati Whatley and Marc Whatley; and four great grandchildren, Chelsea, Haley, Shea, and Cort Jackson. A private service arranged by Good Samaritan Hospice of Prescott was held on Sunday, December 9. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Arizona Prescott Good Samaritan Society, Prescott Hospice.
