Dorinda D. Vick

Dorinda Dimmick Vick passed away peacefully in the presence of her husband and children on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 in Prescott, Arizona, after a brief but courageous battle with leukemia. Dori, as so many knew her, was born in Chardon, Ohio, on January 5th, 1938. Dori came to Arizona in 1956 to attend college at the UofA in Tucson, where she met her husband, Curtis. Dorinda was an angel while here with us. She was, from the beginning, the proverbial American farm girl: warm, sunny, earthy and good. She was forgiving, generous, kind and loving. She was also a fierce advocate of children, animals and anyone in need. She started the Headstart program in Payson, Arizona and was one of two people who advocated for and successfully created the Payson Mental Health organization. Dori worked as a nurse’s aide at the Payson hospital, taught in the schools there and worked for thirty years as a real estate agent in Mesa and Prescott, where her love of people endeared her to her clients and colleagues. Her interests were many: she loved reading, gardening, horses, dogs and cats, and was a talented artist. Above all, she loved her three children and her grandchildren and was a wonderful, giving mother and grandmother. Dori is survived by her husband of 53 years, Curtis D. Vick; and by their three children Steven Vick, Jonathan Vick and Pamela Martin; as well as by her six grandchildren: Jeremy and Madison Vick, Brandon and Falina Vick, and Savannah and Kellan Martin. Godspeed, darling woman. Our love for you sustains us in our grief. Until we meet again, dear wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. May God hold you in his arms, sweet, sweet Dorinda.
