Donna Kleinkauf is now resting with her Lord in Heaven. Donna passed away on November 9, 2010 at the age of 90 from complications of congestive heart failure. Donna was born in Monmouth, IL on March 6, 1920 to Herman and Mabel Schantz. After graduating from Monmouth College, Donna started her career in a one-room country school teaching students in grades 1 through 6. She spent summers at a YWCA camp, first as a counselor and then as the director. Moving to Chicago, IL, Donna worked at Harris Trust & Savings Bank and lived at the YWCA. In 1948, Donna met the love of her life, Kent Kleinkauf. On July 4, 1948, they married at the Monmouth Lutheran Church, beginning their 62 years of shared Christian life. While Kent finished medical school, Donna taught 3rd grade in Evanston, IL and then in Oak Park, IL. Their first daughter, Kay, was born in 1949 and their second daughter, Karen, was born in 1954. Through the years, Donna and Kent lived in Buffalo, NY; Washington, DC; Taiwan (where Donna taught at the Taiwan American School); Maywood, IL and Memphis, TN. They settled in Galesburg, IL for 21 years, raising their family and running a successful Urology practice. In 1976, Donna and Kent established their home in Prescott, AZ; keeping it even during a few years when they lived in Wickenburg, AZ. Recently, they have resided at the Good Samaritan Village. Donna was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking for her family, for social events and for fundraisers; she created a home that was always warm and inviting. Donna made friends where ever she lived. With her bright smile and twinkling eyes, Donna loved storytelling and bringing cheer to those around her. Always generous with her time, Donna contributed to countless organizations including the American Evangelical Lutheran Church, Medical Auxiliary, Blood Banks, Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and her PEO sisterhood.
