Donald Earl Mastin

Donald E. Mastin passed away peacefully at the age of 95 in Prescott, Arizona on December 10, 2020 after suffering from Alzheimer's disease for several years.  Donald was born to John and Mary Alice Mastin in Phoenix on the family farm, the youngest of eight children.  He is survived by his loving wife Marjorie of 75 years, son Dick Mastin (Lynn), daughter Linda Walker (Del), grandsons Darin, Donald, and Jeff, granddaughter Jeannie, ten great-grandchildren, six nieces and four nephews.  He was proud to serve his country in World War II enlisting in the Coast Guard and serving on the USS Carson City in the South Pacific.  Upon his discharge from the Coast Guard he acquired a custom hay bayling and silage cutting business in Phoenix.  In August of 1962, the family moved to Chino Valley, Arizona, however, they returned to Phoenix the following year as the seasonal harvesting there was limited.  Donald resumed his custom hay baling and silage harvesting.  He and Marjorie returned to Chino Valley in 1973 where they agreed to share croping with the existing owners.  In later years, Donald would own and operate a trucking business in Prescott; until serious health issues forced him into retirement.  He was a member of the Arizona Farm Bureau Association, Chino Valley Lion's Club, Chino Valley United Methodist Men, and Chino Valley United Methodists Mens Breakfast Brunch.  Donald and Marjorie were charter members of the Chino Valley United Methodist Church under the leadership of Robert Remp, our Minister.  In 1978 Donald was honored as "Farmer of the Year" in Yavapai County.  He enjoyed the planting and harvesting of crops, raising cattle, and resoring old farm machinery.  His interest in television was limited to National Geographic, zoos and wildlife and John Wayne movies.  His special joy was spending time hunting and fishing with his son and grandchildren.

Donald was interred with Military Honors in Phoenix, Arizona at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery.  The family requests any donations be made to the DAV Organization.  This may be done by clicking on the organization link below.
