Dolores Diane Jones

Dolores Diane Jones, 82, passed away peacefully at her home in Prescott, Arizona on March 22, 2019.

Dolores was born in San Francisco to Dolores and Lawrence Rasmussen. She attended Dominican College and the University of California, Berkeley before falling in love and marrying Larry Jones in 1957. Larry and Dolores were married for 62 years.

In the mid-'60s, the growing Jones family moved from San Francisco to Concord, California. Always socially aware and engaged, Dolores worked within her community supporting integration, striking United Farm Workers and women's rights.

She went back to school to get a paralegal certificate and worked full time at Pacific Gas & Electric as a paralegal. Upon her retirement, she returned again to finish her bachelor's degree at California State University, Hayward. Her experience as caretaker for her own mother led Dolores to become an advocate for the elderly. She served as a commissioner for the Contra Costa County Advisory Council on Aging and provided free Medicare counseling through the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program.

Larry and Dolores moved to Prescott, Arizona in 1999. An avid reader, intellectual and inveterate scholar, Dolores took and taught many classes at Yavapai College Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, focusing on current affairs, history, and her family's geneology.

Dolores was preceded in death by her parents Dolores and Lawrence Rasmussen and her brother Bob Rasmussen. She is survived by her husband Larry; brother John Rasmussen; children Kurt Jones, Elizabeth Darrow, Matthew Jones, Kelley Jones, Laurie Jones, and Christopher Jones; her six grandchildren Alex Rook, Devin Jones, Owen Jones, Tristan Powell, Ian Jones-Muniz, and Zoe Guidron; and great-grandchildren Nina and Charlie Guidron.
