Dennis James Stubbs was born in Arlington, VA on February 14,1951 and graduated from George C. Marshall High School in 1969. Dennis met Nel Sigmond Sanders in 1999 and they married in 2002 after moving to Phoenix. Dennis retired in 2008 after spending over 35 years as a civil designer. After retirement Dennis and Nel moved to Prescott, AZ, which they called home.
Dennis was a gifted woodturner combining his skills as an engineer and passion for design to create works of art, particularly Native American style flutes, walking stick flutes and other carved and turned artwork. He was a proud member of the Prescott Area Woodturners where he forged many friendships. He also enjoyed rebuilding his brothers’ (Dana & Dale) 1967 Flathead 45 motorcycle over the last 10 years.
Dennis is preceded in death by his father Keith Stubbs, his mother Gerda Cooke Stubbs, his brothers Dale Stubbs and Dana Stubbs and his sister-in-law Johanna O’Toole. Dennis is survived by Nel, his wife of 19 years, his sister Donna Shumaker (Clif), his daughter Mia Hyde and stepdaughters Candice Palmer (Derek) and Christine Preston (Phillip) along with nine grandchildren (Thomas, Erik, Samuel, Jackie, Joshua, Saige, Alex, Cordelia & Willa) as well as loving sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. He also leaves behind his dogs Bonnie & Misty who both took many naps with him on his recliner. Donations can be made to the Yavapai Humane Society at: https://yavapaihumane.org/donate.
