David Earl Chaney, age 70, died Saturday, February 3, in Prescott Valley, AZ. A Hoosier native, he graduated from Indiana University, and as a young man served in Korea. A business major, his professional career was spent in higher education administration. As Associate Registrar at Indiana University, he was responsible for transforming the University’s official records collection process from print to digital formats. He worked for a time in Student Services in Albuquerque, but eventually his career took him to UC-Santa Barbara, where he spent 15 years as Registrar, and later Research Analyst in the Office of the Chancellor. One of David’s fondest memories during his time at UC-Santa Barbara was meeting the distinguished theoretical physicist and author Stephen Hawking at a university-sponsored dinner. Returning to Indiana, he served as Director of Student Services for the School of Education at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, IN prior to relocating to Prescott Valley in 2005.
He is survived by a wife, Renée Ramsey, of Prescott Valley, AZ, a daughter, Kassandra Chaney, of Santa Clara, CA, and a brother, John Chaney, of Westminster, CA.
