Charles R. 'Scotty' Smith

Charles R. (Scotty) Smith passed away peacefully on March 16th, 2011. He was born in 1922 in Edna, Texas, but spent most of his life in Arizona.
He attended Scottsdale Elementary and Scottsdale High School and had many stories about life in Old Arizona. In his younger days he spent time as a working cowboy, a miner in Superior, working in factories for Goodyear Aircraft, and as a student at what would become ASU. He left college and entered the service in 1942, training to become a pilot. Some of the best years of his life were those he spent in WWII, flying a C-47 in missions over Southern Italy with the Army Air Corp. and later when he was stationed in Brazil. He returned home in 1946 and began farming in Eloy, AZ. While living in Southern Arizona he met Flossie, who would become his wife and lifelong partner. Together they moved to Glendale where he farmed cotton for many years. They retired in Litchfield Park and enjoyed playing golf and spending time with friends and family.
After Flossie passed away in 2003, Scotty moved to Prescott to be close to family. He loved living in Prescott and especially spending time at the American Legion and VFW shooting the bull with his buddies.
He is survived by his daughter, Vicki McGaw and husband Dick who live in Prescott; his son, Mark Smith and wife Denise Breitburg, grandchildren Maya and Eli who live in Maryland, and sister, Ruby Hanson of Phoenix, AZ.
