Bonnie Lou Palmer, age 88, of Prescott, AZ, passed away on June 5th, 2024, after being involved in a vehicle accident in the Prescott area.
Though she was a California native, growing up in Los Angeles and residing in Walnut, California, for 42 years, she and her husband, Jack L. Palmer, moved to Prescott in 2004, and made it their home. Bonnie and Jack were married in 1956, and they would have celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary this coming August 18th. Unfortunately, Jack was also in the accident, and after 11 days in the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries in the early morning of Father’s Day, June 16th, 2024.
Bonnie was born on December 10th, 1935, to Nate and Margaret Gavaldon, in Los Angeles, California. She was the youngest of 9 siblings who all preceded her in death. Bonnie fondly referred to herself as “the baby” of the family. Bonnie and Jack had two sons, Steven Palmer and Jack M. Palmer, who both also preceded them in death, Steven in 2000, and Jack M. in 2015. Bonnie is survived by her three grandchildren, Margaret (34), Jack (32), and Michelle (31), and her two great-grandchildren, Cheyenne (12) and Gloria (7 months). Bonnie is also survived by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Marietta Palmer of Tempe, AZ, her sister-in-law, Lana Weaver of Springfield, OR, and two of her siblings' children who she remained in contact with over the years, Rena Figved, her niece, and Martin Stensbol, her nephew.
Bonnie was an active member in her church, Westside Christian, for over 7 years, and she enjoyed participating in various bible study groups over the years. She was very involved in philanthropic organizations while in California as volunteering and supporting her community were close to her heart. Upon relocating to the Prescott area, in 2005, she joined the Monday Club, which is a non-profit community organization focusing on women’s issues. She held the position of Club President for 4 years from 2010-2014, and she was devoted to impacting the lives of women in a positive way. Bonnie also was a member of “Seniors…Tried & True,” a volunteer group of seniors who spearhead various charitable projects in the Prescott area including fundraisers and gift collections to benefit impoverished children of the surrounding American Indian communities. Bonnie’s fun-loving spirit led her to become a member of the Red Hat Society (an organization celebrating women) which she enjoyed very much. Bonnie is believed to have had ownership ties to a dress shop in the L.A. area early on when she resided there which certainly is in alignment with her love of sparkly fashion.
While our hearts deeply mourn the loss of Bonnie, we take comfort in knowing she is with the Lord and rejoicing in heaven with Jack! Her smile and warmth will be greatly missed!
