August 29, 1928 — June 12, 2020

Betty E Froeschle

Surrounded by loved ones, Betty, born Elizabeth Eva Bartole on August 29, 1928, in Bismarck, ND, passed peacefully into God’s hands on June 12, 2020, in Prescott AZ.  She was the 4th of five children born to Joseph and Elisabetha (Kajan) Bartole who both emigrated from Hungary to North Dakota in the early 1900s.

Betty met her husband of 56 years, Roland Froeschle, on a blind date in 1946, after he returned home from WWII.  They were married on August 29, 1948, Betty’s 20th birthday. Froeschles made their permanent home in Bismarck, ND where Roland and brother Don joined their dad in the family construction business, Froeschle Sons, Inc.  Betty and Rolly were long time members of the First Presbyterian Church in Bismarck and St. Michaels Methodist Church in Lake Havasu City, AZ. Betty taught Sunday School, sang in the choirs and volunteered in the community.  In addition to church, Betty was active in Eastern Star and PEO, plus she volunteered for many years at The School of Hope in Bismarck where she spread love to special needs children. Her capacity for loving and supporting others was enormous and gave her great joy.

In Betty’s world, children were not only seen but heard and there was always time for a hug, a back rub or a song - especially I Love You a Bushel and a Peck, which became the special tune she sang with her grandkids and great-grandkids who called her Grammie and Gigi. After retirement, Betty and Rolly moved to Lake Havasu City AZ, which was a big draw for Sue, Jerry and Nancy, who visited often with their kids Erin and Josh, Ann and Lauren, and Molly and Dylan.  Rolly chose Las Fuentes Resort Village in Prescott AZ as the place he and Betty would spend their later retirement, but his health declined and he passed away on June 4, 2004. Betty moved to Prescott where Sue and her family live.  Betty spent many wonderful years with kids, grandkids and great-grandkids Sebastian, Jocelyn, Tynan, Cameron and Audrey. Sadly, she missed meeting her youngest great-grandchildren Owen and Harper.

In ten years at Las Fuentes, Betty participated in welcoming other residents, singing in the informal choir, attending concerts and plays and doing crafts and activities. She attended monthly birthday parties and always took photos to give to the birthday folks. She received excellent care at Las Fuentes and loved the staff and her many friends there.  Her incredible caregiver Bernice Shanks became a third daughter to Betty and her family.  Betty was nearly deaf and grieved the loss of hearing laughter and children’s voices. Betty was active in Trinity Presbyterian Church, sang in the church choir, was a caregiver for MOPS at American Lutheran Church and attended Genesis Christian Church.  She belonged to PEO Chapter EQ and celebrated 50 years as a PEO. When health and safety conditions improve, a memorial service will be held at Starting Point Church in Prescott. A second service will be held in Bismarck, ND.  Betty and Rolly will be together again at the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery in Mandan, ND. Betty is survived by Sue Froeschle Carlson and husband Bob Parker of Prescott AZ; Jerry and Sharon Froeschle of Homer AK; and Nancy Froeschle and husband Kent Toland of Portland OR; and many others whose lives Betty touched with love and song.
