Betty Calado Jonsson

Betty Calado Jonsson died at about 8:30 p.m. on September 19th, 2024 in Yavapai Regional Medical Center West in Prescott, AZ after complications due to food poisoning. She was 78 years old.

She was the eldest of four sisters born in Sablan, Benguet, Philippines to Alumno Calado and Benita Paran. Betty went to college at Baguio General School of Nursing where she obtained her RN degree via a scholarship. After her career as a staff nurse in the Philippines, she assisted disabled children on school buses in the United States for over a decade.

Betty married Richard Eugene Thomas Jonsson in the mid 1980s, and moved to Alaska. Shortly thereafter, she gave birth to her only child, Brenda Anne Jonsson. After Richard’s passing in 2014, Betty met her surviving spouse, Laurence Robert Ratcliffe. They married in 2016 in Long Beach, CA, and she moved with him to Prescott, AZ.

Betty traveled around the world to countries like England, Scotland, Ireland, Belgium, Italy, France, Germany, Mexico, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, China, Taiwan, and Israel. She also went on trips throughout the United States.

It was easy to sense that Betty wanted the people around her to be happy and healthy. She is remembered by her family for her steady, consistent, and practical love for them. Her surviving spouse fondly remembers a phone conversation at every lunch hour, and a kiss at the end of each day. She was kind and generous to animals as well as people, and had a daily routine of feeding the hummingbirds, finches, doves, chipmunks, and squirrels that visited her yard in Arizona.
