Betty C. Entz

Betty C. Entz, 89, a Phoenix resident for more than 65 years before moving to Prescott 10 years ago, died peacefully in bed early Monday morning (April 12, 2010). Born Betty Lea Collins on Jan. 30, 1921, in El Dorado, Kan., she spent her early childhood in El Dorado, a place she often referred to as ?The Land of Oz.? In 1935, she moved with her family, including her sister, Mary Ellen Dyer of Prescott, to Phoenix.  She attended Phoenix Union High School (Class of 1939) and the University of Arizona, where she met her husband to be, John C. Entz of Mesa.    She and John were married in Providence R.I., in 1942, shortly after John was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Navy.    She returned to Arizona following WW II, where John established Entz-White Lumber and Supply Co., a Phoenix landmark at 9th St. and Camelback for more than 35 years. Betty is survived by two children, Mary Grace Boice formally of Phoenix and now of Prescott and Jack Entz of Phoenix; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to: St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Children's and Youth Program, 2000 Shepherd's Lane, Prescott, AZ 86301
