Alan was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada to George and Helen [Kilkenny] Atkinson and he attended the University of Toronto where he graduated with a degree in Forestry in 1949. He married Julia Isabella Prouse on October 9, 1948. They moved to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario in 1949 where he worked for Abitibi Power & Paper Co. until they moved to Boise, Idaho in 1961. He was employed by Idaho Department of Lands where he became an Area Supervisor until his retirement in 1985. He and his wife moved to Prescott in 1987. Alan was an active member of the Prescott United Methodist Church where he served many years as an usher. His hobby was woodworking, especially cabinetry & small furniture. He also enjoyed square dancing, hiking, canoeing, symphonies, traveling across the USA and Canada and working out in the hospital Pendleton Gym (Pendleton Center). Alan is survived by his beloved wife Julia, Daughter Alice [Ed], Son G. Philip [Kelsie], seven Grandchildren and six Great grandchildren.

There was private cremation at the Wakelin Family Bradshaw Chapel Crematorium with disposition by family at a latter date in Idaho.
