Hugh Laughlin Campbell was born on August 14, 1925 in Seligman, Arizona.
He was the first son of Frank and Floye Campbell. His summers as a child were spent in Seligman and the winters in Glendale, Arizona, as his family moved with the sheep.
He graduated from Glendale High School in 1943 and spent the next 22 months serving in the United States Navy during World War II, he was honorably discharged in May of 1946. In 1954 he married Wanda Beyard, another lifelong resident of Seligman; they had two children, Cindy and Joe.
Hugh worked for his father and for Ash Fork Livestock Company until 1961 when he acquired Campbell Ranch in Seligman.
“Papa” as he was affectionately called, was loved, respected, and admired by many. He was passionate about working his ranch and attending local sporting events to support the kids. He loved to team rope and attended as many “ropings” as he could. After retiring his horse his favorite past time was to go down to the arena and help out at the chute.
His last request was that he would leave this earthly life at home and on July 9, 2015 Papa went home to greener pastures.
